In January 2026, I was invited to collaborate with Lightscape on an animation marking 25 years of business for SMBC. The piece was designed for large LED screens installed within the façade of their Dublin office, positioned in the gaps between structural elements to create the illusion of virtual windows. I worked alongside two fellow animators, with the project divided into several scenes. I was responsible for developing the first three scenes and for compositing all contributions into the final deliverable.
Each scene incorporated Japanese visual influences, reflecting the company’s heritage. The first scene presented a vintage-style charcoal world map, with animated lines connecting key global locations. The second depicted a mountain landscape inspired by kintsugi, referencing the traditional Japanese art of repairing ceramics with gold. The third featured Georgian windows with subtle interior activity, gradually transforming into shoji screens.
My animation was produced entirely in After Effects. The unconventional canvas presented a rewarding creative challenge, requiring continuous motion in both typography and imagery to ensure clarity and cohesion across the segmented LED display.
