Georgian Festival is an annual event that takes place in Armagh, Northern Ireland which celebrates the town’s Georgian heritage. One of the highlights of the event is a projection mapping show in the market square which attracts thousands of people over two days. The client wanted a 10-15 minute show based on the theme of ‘Coming Home for Christmas’, which needed to cater to young Santa believers and also feature other elements of Armagh’s Christmas Programme.
I developed a story about an Elf named Georgie, who accidentally triggers a teleportation device on Santa’s sleigh. He travels through different worlds, trying to get Santa’s sleigh back in time for Christmas. The show begins with an introduction to Georgie and Santa’s workshop in the North Pole. It then leads into Georgie travelling to various worlds including; an ancient Celtic world filled with fairies, a Georgian day set in the past featuring pop-up characters, a world made of candy and gingerbread and a fairytale castle where he meets a fairy godmother who sends him home. The show ends with Santa getting his sleigh back and delivering his presents.
The animation was a combination of 2D and 3D elements and the show was complimented by light beams on top of the physical building.
